Dick Horton

Dick Horton led golf initiatives in Tennessee from 1973 to 2018. During these 45 years he served as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Section PGA and Tennessee Golf Association (1973-2007), as well as President of the Tennessee Golf Foundation (1990-2018). Horton’s career highlight came in 1995 when he created Golf House Tennessee and The Little Course. Built on 15 acres in Franklin, TN, Golf Housebecame the home of golf in the Volunteer State. Under his leadership itgrew into the hub for every major statewide golf organization including the Tennessee PGA, Tennessee Golf Association, Tennessee Golf Foundation, GCSAA, CMAA, TNPGA Junior Golf Academy, The First Tee of Tennessee and The Vinny. Through Golf House, Horton’s vision of a collaborative golf culture came to fruition and served as the golden standard for states and their various golf associations all across the country.From a one-man office to the current permanent home site at Golf House Tennessee, Horton is one of the most influential individuals in Tennessee golf history. His 45 years of leadership steered the state associations into the modern age of the game, and his fingerprints will forever be seared on Tennessee golf’s past, present and future.
